‘My answer to this question can be best illustrated with another story…’
The Orient. The Middle East. The Arab World. The MENA Region.
First-Generation. Second-Generation. Third Culture. Immigrant. Migrant. Expat.
South-West Asia and North Africa has birthed a generation of young people that now live across the globe. Whatever the term, and wherever we are, we find ourselves questioning our identities as SWANA descendants.
mosaic is a short documentary that explores what happens when the stories of young people across the world with South-West Asian and North African heritage come together. What brings us together? What sets us apart? What makes us who we are, and who we are not?
Using verbatim interviews, crowdsourced footage and original music, the latest collaboration from artists Layla Madanat and Eleanor Nawal sees them join with Sofie K (sound) and Jeremy Rieder (visuals), bringing together fragments of lives to tell a new story.
mosaic will be extended in 2021 as a documentary installation. If you have anything you would like to share or contribute, we are still accepting footage and would love to interview you, feel free to get in touch via the contact page. We want to hear from you.
